Start Your Day Right with These Morning Diabetes Life Hacks

Living with diabetes doesn’t have to be so time-consuming. These diabetes life hacks will get you moving and out of the door fast!

Short on time but still need to figure out how to make your health a priority? Living with diabetes can seem stressful and even worrisome. Thankfully, there are many diabetes life hacks that can help you save time and make your situation more manageable.

Have you ever felt that you need to be in “full power mode” to be able to tackle every day life AND still plan around your meals and medicine supplies in order to control your diabetes?

If so, you are not alone. While there are many diabetes tips and tricks out there that can make your life easier, it is important to figure out which are the ones that actually work for you.

In the case of t1d life hacks, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorites that – after trial and error – we believe can be the basis of your schedule and routine.

First of all, organization is key. Whether you choose to organize by category, type, day of the week, or situation (work, home, going out, etc.). organizing your time, your meals, your medicine and supplies will be the starting point of everything.

One of the best diabetes life hacks we’ve tried is organizing in a vertical way. Think about stacking up plastic shelves, drawers and containers in order to keep your supplies classified and separated.

Labeling each box/container with the appropriate name and quantity – which should be updated as you use it – will help you maintain control of your personal inventory, while having everything available at the tip of your fingers.

Other important t1d life hacks include buying supplies and medications in bulk to be classified in your containers and identifying them in little tubes or vials for easy carry. This way you save money and time instead of having to run to the store every week for your medication or counting pills for your day.

It’s important to understand that, once you try these methods, you may realize they are either the perfect fit for you, but reality is, you never stop learning and trying new things. Whatever works for you today, will not necessarily work the same way in a few years from now.

However, there are other diabetes tips and tricks that are aimed at helping you save time during your morning routine. Below are some of our favorites:

Prepare a morning check-list and place it in a visible spot

This list should include taking your insulin dose (and any other medication), checking your blood sugar levels, pack your supplies and take your meals for the day.

Make your breakfast the night before

While this may seem a bit of a challenge for some, it is not only a time-saver, but it can actually put you in a good mood knowing that you will have a wholesome, delicious meal to start your day off right.

Prepare your clothing and supplies ahead of time

If you have a gym schedule, or a particular class to go to, preparing your work-out clothes and diabetes monitor and supplies ahead of time will avoid forgetting important items and pieces. Check the weather to pack the appropriate gear and ensure you remain comfortable throughout the day.

Enhance your mood

Whether you prefer happy music, a relaxing aromatherapy candle, or a few minutes a day to meditate, your list of diabetes tips and tricks should include something that triggers the happy-mood hormones to keep your spirit going.

Remember that, while living with diabetes can be challenging, it does not mean that you can’t enjoy life in the same way as before. Being organized and thinking ahead are just some of the little changes that can actually save you a lot of headaches in the long term.
