Clinical Definition
Inflammation of the stomach mucosa, possibly in association with dyspepsia. Gastritis is sometimes used as a description (whether there is inflammation or not) of the lining of the stomach based on visualization during endoscopy.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the innermost layer of the stomach that can, in some cases, damage the lining or produce symptoms of burning or discomfort. Gastritis doesnt always cause signs and symptoms. Inflammation may be due to infections, autoimmune disorders, drugs, hypersensitivity reactions, stress or a variety of other conditions.
