In general, when you drink a full glass of water before a meal, you eat less because you are starting out fuller. Water is the best thing you can substitute for other drinks because it doesn’t have any calories, sugar, carbs or fat.

The short answer is no but the long answer is yes. When you drink more water you keep yourself fuller. When your body feels full it doesn’t have as many cravings throughout the day. Water is not meant to supplement all meals but when you are feeling hunger pangs, trying drinking a glass of water and giving it a few minutes before reaching for a snack. Adding more water into your routine can be difficult but drinking water to lose weight can play a major role in your weightless journey. Here’s how you can add more water into your daily schedule:

  • Bring a water bottle with you wherever you go. Whenever you feel a bit of hunger or thirst you have your water with you. Buy a water bottle that keeps your water cold, and even later in the day it will still be refreshing.
  • Set an alarm to remind yourself to drink water throughout the day. If you’re not someone who frequently drinks water, when you set an alarm you are able to remind yourself to drink water throughout the day allowing your body to stay hydrated and your hunger levels down.
  • Certain foods can keep you hydrated. Vegetables and fruit both have water in them and are able to give your body certain fluids as well as nutrients that it needs.
  • When you’re feeling hungry, try drinking a glass of water. The key is to have patience, wait around 15 minutes for the hunger pain to surpass. If it doesn’t go away then you’re body really is hungry and at that time you can opt for a healthy snack.
  • If you must, drink a fruity decaf iced tea. Instead of opting for fruit juice or soda, try drinking an herbal iced tea to allow hydration for your body. It’s better to drink something along these lines than a soda or not drinking anything at all.

Drinking water to lose weight isn’t they key, but it is a big part of the process. Making sure that your body is hydrated keeps it running correctly by burning calories, eliminating waste and limiting consumption of food.

If you’re unsure how much water you should be drinking a day there are a few things that it depends on; age, activity, body size, temperature and where you live. Try drinking at least an 8 ounce glass of water with every meal, carry a water bottle with you and make sure to drink water before and after exercise.
